SEPTEMBER 28, 2005

Hi Everyone,

I hope you all had a safe and wonderful Labor Day with family and friends!

But what’s this? I hear you cry? Why is Quiet Michelle back with another newsletter so soon? What’s going on? Well, I have some exciting news to share (more on that in a bit) and a burning question to ask...

Have you seen it yet?

When I say “have you seen it yet?” I mean have you seen the new Pride and Prejudice movie? A bit trepidatiously I confess, I took myself off to the movies to do just that. A bit trepidatiously because for me, Lovely Colin Firth in the BBC TV adaptation is the total, perfect embodiment of Mr. D, and I couldn’t imagine someone else taking on this part and making it their own. Especially after That Wet Shirt Scene. Go on — don’t be shy to admit that you rewind that bit over and over just like me, LOL. But I needn’t have worried about the Colin/Matthew issue because the new movie is absolutely wonderful! I love it! Matthew MacFadyen makes a perfect (and rather sensitive) Mr. D and I now love him as much as I love Colin — although Robert Plant will always be my number one god among men.

And speaking of Pride and Prejudice, now for my exciting news... Flirting With Pride and Prejudice has just hit the bookstore shelves. My piece in this anthology, Pride and Prejudice. With Cell Phones, is a fictional parody of Eliza Bennet’s proposal scenes with Mr. Collins and Mr. Darcy — with the addition of cell phones, of course! It was a total blast to write, and I hope you have as much fun reading it as I did creating it.

I’m delighted to be part of this anthology because Jane Austen (or Goddess Jane as I refer to her) is one of my all-time favorite authors, so it was thrilling to be asked along for the ride. Apart from the fact that the anthology is edited by the fabulous Jennifer Crusie (another goddess), it is also an honor to be among such a great line up of authors, including Mercedes Lackey, Karen Joy Fowler, Jill Winters and many others — also including my lovely Literarychicks co-bloggers Alesia Holliday and Lani Diane Rich.

And to celebrate, I’m running a new Pride and Prejudice. With Cell Phones contest on my website.

Don’t forget to keep an eye out over at Literarychicks too, because Lani, Alesia and I are hosting a fun contest to celebrate all three of us in the same book.

Well, that’s all from me for now — I’m heading back to be Quiet Michelle for a bit!

Take care,
Michelle
